Summary
On June 15, 2010, fifty-six Next Generation Fellows hailing from government, business, the technology sector, NGO's, nonprofit, the media, and academia gathered at the Meridian International Center in Washington, D.C. to discuss “The Foundations of Power in the 21st Century? Technology, Finance, Innovation, and U.S. Global Policy." The Assembly was co-sponsored by The American Assembly, The Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law at the University of Texas, the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), and the Meridian International Center (MIC), and it was the third meeting in the second phase of The Next Generation Project.
The Next Generation Project is directed by Francis J. Gavin, Director of the Strauss Center for International Security and Law at The University of Texas at Austin.
After introductory remarks, the Assembly opened with a panel on “Innovation, Economy, and Global Power,” moderated by Patrick Gorman, Principal, Booz Allen Hamilton. Andrew P.N. Erdmann, Engagement Manager, McKinsey & Co.; Felix Chang, Co-founder, Avenir Venture Group; and Dan Fletcher, Professor of Bioengineering & Biophysics, UC Berkeley, participated in the panel. A lunch address was given by Sonal Shah, Director, Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation, White House Domestic Policy Council.
